Nowadays hard disk and solid state
drives are affordable and can easily improve your storage requirements, but it
doesn’t mean they come up with unlimited capacity as internet broadband comes. With
games and software’s now taking up hundreds of gigabytes, and Windows updates
needing significantly more space than they used to, you may find your drive
filling up more often.
Fortunately, we have a few tricks
which will help you to free up a lot of space on your PC running on windows and
make your work efficient by allowing you to find the programs or files that you
need easily.
1. Simple thing – clean up your
recycle bin
You may not realize it, but
whenever you delete a file, it doesn’t actually disappear into thin air. On
Windows, it gets stored in your Recycle Bin where it sits for a long time
taking up space.
2. Uninstall unnecessary apps or
programs
Most of the time we install some
apps for some temporary work requirements and we never use them. So you can
uninstall those apps on Windows to free up some space. To uninstall unnecessary
apps or programs just head to the Control Panel then under Programs, select
Uninstall a Program.
3. Delete Temporary Files
Going to Settings > System >
Storage, will offer you a chance to see how much space is being taken up by
Temporary files or Downloads. Find the "Temporary files" option and
click (select) on it and then click on the "Remove files" button to
remove the temporary files.
4. Disk Cleanup
Another trick to free up space in Windows is to use Windows built-in Disk Cleanup utility. Disk Cleanup removes temporary files, clears the cache, empties your Recycle Bin, and removes a variety of other files and items you no longer need.
5. Storage Sense
Windows 10 makes it easy to delete
junk files from your system drive in order to free up disk space. While
emptying your Recycle Bin is a great manual task, when you enable the Storage
Sense tool, it will monitor and free up space on your PC automatically.
Even after performing all the
above tips still you are getting a low storage space message, you might need to
consider some other options like transferring files to an external drive or
include an additional storage drive.
